The Cat's Meow

Hunter said thank you for the first time this morning. I handed her a piece of my english muffin with cream cheese and she said it. I haven't been coaching her or anything. Is it possible that she is learning to be grateful? Or more probable that she is mimicking our behavior? Who cares either way? I nearly wept and was consequently motivated to update this dusty blog after five months.

She Knows

Here is the latest on our little Bee: She is growing, on the verge of tipping 20 pounds.  She is a happy girl, always smiling and waving at strangers, causing the cranky folk on the bus to grin and play silly games with her.  We've taken to calling her The Mayor on account of her tireless campaigning to win friends and influence people.  She is figuring out walking. Jason saw her take a few steps a few days ago, but we haven't seen any since.  She eats everything, like everything....she pigged out at the Mole de Mayo festival in our neighborhood.  Squash blossom quesadillas were our little foodie's favorite. Today she had a smoothie with raw kale, pineapple, and banana.  She loves shrimp, garlic, spinach in her scrambled eggs.  You name it she will eat it. And guys, she knows things.  She knows she isn't supposed to touch certain things like the stereo or our computers or phones, which she respects and tests.  She knows coffee beans are for smelling and not tasting.  She knows how to tease, play hide and sneak (yes sneak), eat yogurt with her hands, and what to do with shoes, hats, and coats. She loves other kids and dogs.  She is brave and sweet.

Half Pint=No Pint

Hunter did not have her first pint this St. Patrick's Day, but she did use her adorableness Irish muscles to get some parade swag.

Monkey See, Monkey Do

Lately, Hunter insists on eating what we are eating. Behold! Yesterday she ate her first pizza crust at Piece. It is our favorite spot for pies, as well as a best kept secret for brunch. While all of the other Chicagoans wait 90 minutes to pay $14 for pancakes, we feast on pizza and $4 house-made Bloody Marys. We have pretty much opened the floodgates for what we will let Hunt try. That said, we've decided that will play out as us eating more whole foods, more frequently, as opposed to Hunter gorging on a main heavy meal with us every night. Plus it's summertime...right? It has been 80 degrees all week. The trees are blooming, fresh veg must be forthcoming, right?

S.O.S.

Sorry for the delay in posting...there has been a mutiny and the new leader hasn't yet mastered the English language.

Creature Comforts

Hunt is crying it out, I am crying and Jase is frozen in the hallway. We are all afraid to move. Afraid any change in setting will prolong this horrible thing we know we have to do for the health and well being of our family. She uses her unbelievable powers of stinking adorableness to bend us to her will (see above). We made a pact that it ended after Christmas travels. And then she caught a cold, so we extended it until she healed. She spent the past three nights in her own bed, dusk to dawn, and I only had to pick her up and nurse her 27 times.. Tonight, she was cut off the dole. Twenty minutes of crying. We are all still alive. We all still love each other.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?

It's Hunter! In anticipation of participating in the Thanksgiving meal, Hunter snacked on cereal mixed with breast milk. Man, did she ever know what to do! She has been watching us eat with rapt attention lately and mom's little mimic was pretty darn civilized at her first meal. Papa thought feeding her was a hoot and is encouraging me to get a life outside the home now that he can feed our mini boo.

Stay tuned! Tomorrow we will try a green vegetable in St.Paul, MN where we will be spending the holiday with Jason's family.
